Dr. Gürer is an Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation fellow at the University of Siegen where he is conducting research on “Conflict, Refugees and Dynamics of Integration.” He has received his PhD degree from Department of Political Science at Kent State University, USA (2007). His research interests and areas of expertise are Conflict and Human Displacement, Integration policies, Transnational and Comparative Security Policies. In addition, to teaching and research, he participated in projects with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), UNICEF and UNODC. He also worked with nongovernmental aid agencies supporting Syrian refugees in Turkey and provided consultancy to increase the efficiency of NGO activities. He has been also affiliated with the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies as an Adjunct Professor.
