As a global historian of Africa, I am committed to the study of Africa and Africans as an integral part of writing global history. My research follows this interest, focusing on the nexus between refugees, politics and development in Africa beyond. My latest project focuses on the history of refuge seeking in Africa in the second half of the twentieth century by tracing the genesis and impact of the Organization of African Unity’s 1969 Covention Governing Specific Aspects of Refugee Problems in Africa. In addition, I teach Global History, Life History and history research methods to refugee learners in Kenya, Rwanda and the MENA region in online and blended-learning courses. I harness digital, transnational teaching methods to increase the availability of the humanities to refugees.
