Dr. Grit Grigoleit-Richter holds a PhD in American Studies from the University of Passau, Germany. Her research examines migration governance, border regimes, diaspora, and racialized minorities in the United States through a race-conscious and intersectional lens. Drawing on Black Studies, Critical Race Theory, Intersectionality, and Critical Border Studies, she explores how race, and its intersections with gender, class, citizenship status, and other social categories, shapes U.S. society and its institutions.
She is currently the principal investigator of the BMFTR-funded project The Intersection of Race, Gender, and Neoliberalism in U.S. Migration Governance at the University of Passau. Previously, she worked as a researcher and lecturer in sociology at the University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg and at Hamburg University of Technology.
