The German Network for Forced Migration Studies…
is a multi-disciplinary network of researchers who conduct research on aspects of forced migration and refugees. Its purpose is, among other things, to strengthen forced migration and refugee research in the scientific landscape, to promote research in the field of Forced Migration and Refugee Studies, to contribute to the dialogue between science and practice as well as to the transfer of research results, to support the critical discussion among scientists about forced migration, asylum, refugee protection and living conditions of refugees as well as the transfer of scientific results to the public. To this end, it primarily aims to contribute to networking researchers in the field of Forced Migration and Refugee Studies, to the initiation of cooperations within and beyond academia, and to the inter- and transdisciplinary exchange about research. The German Network for Forced Migration Studies does this, among other things, by organizing scientific meetings and conferences, by providing online platforms (homepage) and internal communication tools, through a newsletter and social media, and by providing or supporting publication formats such as the FluchtforschungsBlog and the Z’Flucht: Zeitschrift für Flucht- und Flüchtlingsforschung. The German Network for Forced Migration Studies is committed to basic ethical principles in science.
(Cf. the statute of Netzwerk Fluchtforschung e.V.).
History
Netzwerk Fluchtforschung (German Network for Forced Migration Studies) was founded as Netzwerk Flüchtlingsforschung (German Network for Refugee Studies) in June 2013 at a conference in Berlin on the 20th anniversary of the enactment of the 1993 asylum law reform by J. Olaf Kleist together with Nora Markard and Jochen Oltmer.
Since February 2015, the network has been running the FluchtforschungsBlog, which was initiated by Ulrike Krause and has been editorially managed together with Marcus Engler since 2018.
Since 2016, Z’Flucht: Zeitschrift für Flucht- und Flüchtlingsforschung (Nomos) has been published in conjunction with the German Network for Forced Migration Studies.
At the beginning of 2017, the Forum Young Forced Migration Studies (Junge Fluchtforschung) was launched.
Since 2017, the Task Force International Networking organizes contacts to institutions and persons of Forced Migration and Refugee Studies outside Germany.
The general assembly on October 4, 2018 decided to change the name to German Network for Forced Migration Studies (“Netzwerk Fluchtforschung”) and to found an non-profit association. In March 2019, Netzwerk Fluchtforschung e.V. was registered by the Osnabrück Local Court; in April 2019, the Osnabrück Tax Office determined that the statutes met the requirements for non-profit status; in June 2019, together with a relaunch of the homepage, the admission of members to the association began.
