Regional and Local Responses to Global Refugee Movements: Contexts, Challenges, Solutions Forced migration and displacement in the context of violent conflicts and natural disasters have
Forced migration is a political and social challenge in ever new constellations – in Europe and worldwide. Refugees are confronted with manifold dangers and challenges, which they face with a wide variety of coping strategies. The category of “the refugee” challenges fundamental principles of states, law, political communities and society. Refugee and forced migration studies analyse and conceptualise all those aspects and have to tackle questions regarding the normative and ethical foundations of its research subject, as well as questions of knowledge transfer and critical interventions into the wider public.
From September 17 to 19, 2020, the third, so far largest conference on refugee and forced migration studies took place, organized by the team at the Chair of Youth Welfare and Social Work at the University of Cologne with the executive board of the German Network of Forced Migration Researchers and the BMBF-funded joint project “Forced Migration and Refugee Studies: Networking and Knowledge Transfer” (FFVT). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference was held in a digital format instead of the premises of the University of Cologne.
To present and discuss current research results and to promote interdisciplinary exchange and cooperation, the 2nd conference of the Network for Forced Migration Studies took place from October 4-6, 2018. Organizer and partner was the Center Flight and Migration of the Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
From October 6-8, 2016, the Network for Forced Migration Studies hosted the first conference of refugee research at the Osnabrück University. The aim was to provide a platform for discussion, thus promoting the exchange of research results from all fields of forced migration and refugee research.
In diesem Jahr jährte sich der “Asylkompromiss”, den die Regierungskoalition aus CDU/CSU und FDP gemeinsam mit der oppositionellen SPD am 26.Mai 1993 beschloss, zum 20. Mal. Aus Anlass zu diesem Jahrestag organisierten J. OLAF KLEIST und JOCHEN OLTMER vom Institut für Migrationsforschung und Interkulturelle Studien (IMIS) in Osnabrück im Übergangswohnheim Marienfelder Allee in Berlin eine Bestandsaufnahme der historischen Flüchtlingsforschung in und über Deutschland.
